A New Paradigm
A 10 year study published in a American Demographics has revealed the presence of a 'new' paradigm within the American population.
This group includes at least 44 million Americans or about 1/4 of the population. This group names the Cultural Creatives in the study have a great concern about the environment and spiritual awareness. This group is so strong that polls done every six months by the movie industry have shown a shift from the desire of what people want to see on the media. Formerly "sex and violence" have ranked #1 & #2 in popularity with the public and are now are ranking #4 & #5. "Ancient Wisdom" has ranked #1 for two years!
The pollsters finally realized that the Cultural Creatives have remained undiscovered until this time, because mass-media has been aimed at the cultural group the call the Moderns. The Moderns believe in the self above all else and making money at the expense of the environment. Like cancer this will even go so far as to take the life of the host (in this case, our planet, the Earth) even if they go with it! Interestingly even the Moderns comprise about half the US population, about the number of people who have cancer. Over the past two years it has also been noted that the cancer in the population is decreasing and it is believed that the number of Moderns is decreasing.
The third group identified in the study has been named the Heartlanders. This group comprises at least 1/4 of the population who hold traditional values and who do not want things to change.
The studies indicated also that the products and services desired by this new paradigm are quite different than those desired by the Moderns. Mass media sees this as an incredible financial opportunity. Changes in mass media are already starting to be evident.
Some examples of movies in the new genre are "Contact" (an interesting interplay between the skeptic attitude and faith) and "Powder". And the new internet movie, Quantum Project
